PROVIDENCE VIADUCT I-95 SOUTHBOUND BRIDGE 578 REPLACEMENT

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation Providence Viaduct Southbound Bridge 578 Replacement Project involved the construction of a new 1,290 foot four lane bridge to carry RT 95 Southbound through downtown Providence, RI.  The Project also required removal and replacement of adjacent Bridge Ramp Structures 577 and 579 as well as widening sections of Bridge 578 and 579.  Due to very tight logistical constraints, the project required seven separate phases of traffic control and all work was required to be planned and scheduled in a very coordinated and detailed manner.

The work included extensive earth excavation and temporary support of excavation, pile driving, concrete substructure, bridge superstructure, temporary bridge, bridge demolition, cast in place concrete retaining walls, precast concrete retaining walls, storm drainage, roadway reconstruction, highway approach, highway signage, and highway lighting work.

Manafort developed and executed a number of value engineering approaches to complete the project including concrete slip forming of bridge parapets, the first ever application on a Rhode Island Department of Transportation Project.  Accelerated Construction Methods were also employed to complete construction of an interim highway ramp, to minimize traffic impacts on the general public, in 7 days, three days ahead of the 10 days required by contract.

Manafort served as Prime Contractor for the project and self-performed a majority of the work including excavation, temporary support of excavation, concrete substructure, bridge superstructure, cast in place concrete retaining walls, precast concrete retaining walls, storm drainage, roadway reconstruction, and highway approach work.

BEDFORD SQUARE

The Bedford Square Project in Westport, CT is a 115,000 sf Mixed Use Development constructed on a tight urban site in the heart of downtown Westport. The project included 26 Apartments, two floors of Retail space, a concrete Parking Garage, and renovation of the original 40,000 sf Bedford Building.

Manafort Brothers Incorporated was contracted to perform all Civil & Utility as well as Concrete work associated with the project. One of the major project challenges included extensive shoring and support of excavation due to its close proximity to the adjacent buildings and roadways with the balance of the scope of work including demolition, excavation, utility, concrete foundation, concrete superstructure, concrete slab, and site finish work.

Manafort self performed nearly all of it’s scope of work while also working closely with the entire project team under a very aggressive project schedule to coordinate and support a safe, successful, and on time completion of this development project.

MDC – UPPER FRANKLIN AVENUE SEWER SEPARATION

As part of The Metropolitan District Commissions (MDC) Clean Water Project to control and reduce the overflow of untreated sewage into local waterways, Manafort Brothers Incorporated was awarded the Upper Franklin Avenue Sewer Separation Contract. As with many older urban areas, Hartford’s Storm Drainage and Sewer Systems were Combined Systems, with all flows combining into a single pipe and flowing to the Wastewater Treatment Facility. During high flow periods such as rain events, the flow rates exceeded the treatment facilities capacity, potentially resulting in untreated sewage discharges.

As part of the solution to this problem,The MDC proposed separating the Sanitary Sewer from the Storm Drainage System, to limit Storm Drainage Flows to the Treatment Facility. The Upper Franklin Avenue Sewer Separation Project was part of this overall plan and included Approximately 103,000 lf of Storm Drainage, Sanitary Sewer, and Water piping and over 300 each Storm Drainage and Sanitary Sewer Structures. All work was performed in a tight urban setting, around numerous existing and unknown utilities, at depths requiring shoring, and in challenging ground conditions on the South Side of The City of Hartford. Extensive Traffic Control, Pedestrian, Business, and Utility Company Coordination were required to accomplish this challenging utility work.

Manafort self performed nearly all of it’s scope of work while also working closely with the entire project team under a very aggressive project schedule to coordinate and support a safe and successful completion of this project.

FEDEX GROUND HUB

Manafort Brothers Incorporated was selected to perform the Civil & Utility work associated with the new Fed Ex Ground Hub Facility in Middletown, CT. This $220M Project to construct a new 525,000 sf Sorting Facility required substantial Civil & Utility work to develop and transform the 239 Acre site.

Major work items included 2,500,000 cy of Earthwork, 225,000 cy of Rock Drilling & Blasting, 30,000 sf of Support of Excavation, 300,000 sf of Retaining Walls, 65,000 lf of Utility and Storm Drainage Piping, 500 ea Utility and Storm Drainage Structures, 15,000 cy of Site Concrete, 35,000 lf of Concrete Curbing, and 90,000 tons of Bituminous Concrete Paving.

Manafort has self performed the majority of the work and lead and coordinated its very substantial onsite workforce and subcontractor team under a very aggressive schedule towards a safe, successful, and on time completion of this facility.
